Dutch man rescues boaters after dinghy capsizes in Comox
Three people were rescued from the frigid waters off the coast of Comox after their dinghy capsized, according to first responders.
The trio was returning to a boat anchored in the Comox Harbour when they fell in around 6 p.m.
They remained in the water for about 20 minutes before help arrived, said Comox Fire Chief Gord Schreiner.
Their cries for help could be heard from shore, according to Schreiner.
A boater from Holland managed to pull all three people to safety and get them to dry land, where they were handed blankets for warmth.
None of them suffered any major injuries, Schreiner said.
“All appear to be in good health, all are cold and wet, and we’re now trying to find accommodations for them for the rest of the evening,” he said.
The Canadian Coast Guard was also called to the incident.
