Wind Warning in effect for much of Vancouver Island

From Environment Canada:

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

The second in a series of powerful October storms will arrive Thursday evening over the South Coast. Rain and very strong winds can be expected with that storm.

Southeast winds up to 80 km/h can be expected over East Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast and up to 100 km/h over West Vancouver Island. As the low crosses Vancouver Island the winds will shift to southwest 50 gust 90 km/h. These winds will ease midday Friday as the low tracks further inland.

Winds this strong can topple trees and take down power lines. Power outages should be expected.

Avoid wooded areas to prevent injury from falling trees or branches. Campers should move to sturdy shelters.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to pacificstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #BCStorm.

Lions 911 Reflective Address Signs

Lions 911 Reflective Address Signs available - see us outside the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays.  CV Monarch Lions volunteers will be at the Home Show next weekend too.

If you are wondering where people are getting the blue reflective address signs popping up all around the valley you can thank the Comox Valley Monarch Lions Club.

The Lions 911 Reflective Address Signs is a community/ fundraiser project that will help keep families safe. Every year people spend precious minutes waiting for emergency services because the drivers can't find their home. When it's dark out, address numbers may not be visible from the street.  Households that frequently have guests over in the evening can also benefit greatly from installing a reflective address sign.  They'll help food delivery drivers, taxis, and home care workers too!

“We happy to see the Lions blue signs with white numbers popping up all over the Valley, and they are very effective, especially at night.  They are very easy to install because of the predrilled holes.  100% of the money raised from this project goes directly back into the community,” said Lion Ken Hand.

You can get you own Lions 911 reflective address sign during the Fall Home Show taking place at the Comox Recreation Centre, Friday September 23 to Sunday September 25.   Monarch Lions can be found in the lobby ready to make your customized house number sign while you wait.

Lions 911 Reflective address signs also make thoughtful gifts for your family, friends and neighbours!  They sell for $40.00.  To place your order call (250) 338-9602 or visit www.911reflectivesign.ca - Pre-orders are welcomed for pick up during the Fall Home Show.
