Prevention, Emergency Response, and the Comox Fire Training Centre

Comox Fire Rescue provides a variety of preventive and emergency services to a population of over 18,000 in an area of 16 square miles. This includes the Town of Comox, the Comox Fire Protection Improvement District, the Bates Huband Local Service Area (Regional District of Comox-Strathcona), and the Comox Indian Band. They also operate the Comox Fire Training Centre, which trains firefighters from all over Vancouver Island, and even parts of BC and the rest of Canada. The training centre is certified by the JIBC.

Fire Attack (JIBC Module #8)

Two-day program 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m

Intense two-day program, designed to meet the evaluation requirements of the Firefighter Certification Program Level 1 (and Level 2 for up to 5 students per course), module #8 practical component. Students must also complete the written component of this module to achieve completion of the Firefighter Certification program, Module #8. Students should complete the written component of this module prior to attending the practical evaluation session.

Prior to attending students MUST have gained competency in the following subjects:

  • Safety & Orientation
  • SCBAs
  • Fire Streams
  • Fire Hose
  • Fire Behaviour

A letter from the students' Fire Chiefs confirming this must be provided prior to the student attending.

Firefighter Certification program, Level 2, module #8 evaluations are also available on these dates for those who have already attained Firefighter Level 1, Module #8. (Limited number of students each weekend.) Level 2 students are separated during classroom time and are instructed in team management skills, communications and team safety. Level 2 students then act as team leaders for hands-on, as per NFPA 1001. (You cannot do levels 1 & 2 on the same weekend.)

This program is intense and fast-paced. Students will receive training and be evaluated for the necessary skills to safely meet the requirements of the Firefighter Certification Program 1 (or 2 for some students), Module #8 practical skills check list.

Please provide students JIBC number when registering.

Materials Required:

You are required to bring your own WCB approved personal protective clothing.

MSA breathing apparatus will be supplied or you may bring your own SCBA.

Cost:

$495.00 per student, 15 participants and 5 evaluators/instructors per session

(Includes lunch and lots of drinking water)

Notes:

JIBC student number required for certification.
