Prevention, Emergency Response, and the Comox Fire Training Centre

Comox Fire Rescue provides a variety of preventive and emergency services to a population of over 18,000 in an area of 16 square miles. This includes the Town of Comox, the Comox Fire Protection Improvement District, the Bates Huband Local Service Area (Regional District of Comox-Strathcona), and the Comox Indian Band. They also operate the Comox Fire Training Centre, which trains firefighters from all over Vancouver Island, and even parts of BC and the rest of Canada. The training centre is certified by the JIBC.

Corey Brooks is a full time Captain and has been with Comox Fire Rescue since 1995. Corey spent 13 years as a P.O.C member before becoming a full time member in 2008. Corey currently is one of the head instructors for live fire and hazardous materials programs at the Comox Fire Training Center and has been doing so for over 12 years and is a adjunct instructor for the Justice Institute of B.C where he delivers programs in the field of hazardous materials response. One highlight of Corey’s career so far was being chosen to work as a firefighter at the 2010 winter Olympics in Whistler. Not to be always the teacher, Corey is currently working on his 4th and final level of the JIBC fire officer certificate and always finds free time for his passions, which are his family, Mt.biking, snowboarding, standuppaddle boarding ,windsurfing and crossfit.
