Prevention, Emergency Response, and the Comox Fire Training Centre

Comox Fire Rescue provides a variety of preventive and emergency services to a population of over 18,000 in an area of 16 square miles. This includes the Town of Comox, the Comox Fire Protection Improvement District, the Bates Huband Local Service Area (Regional District of Comox-Strathcona), and the Comox Indian Band. They also operate the Comox Fire Training Centre, which trains firefighters from all over Vancouver Island, and even parts of BC and the rest of Canada. The training centre is certified by the JIBC.

Fire Attack; Live Fire 1 (Interior FF) or 2 (Full Service FF)

Two-day program 8:30 a.m to 4:30 p.m

Intense two-day program, designed to meet the evaluation requirements of NFPA 1001 and the BC Structure Firefighters Competency and Training Playbook for Interior Firefighter (FIRE-1071 Level 1) and Full Service Firefighter (FIRE-1072 Level 2 for up to 5 students per course). Students must have completed the written component of Live Fire 1 through the JIBC (if enrolled in that program) to achieve JIBC completion of the Live Fire Components.  

Prior to attending students MUST have gained competency in the following subjects:

  • Safety & Orientation

  • SCBAs

  • Fire Streams

  • Fire Hose

  • Fire Behaviour

This program is intense and fast-paced. Students will receive training and be evaluated for the necessary skills to safely meet the requirements of NFPA 1001 Live Fire 2 and the Full Service Firefighter Live Fire 2 FIRE-1072 program practical skills checklist. 

Live Fire Level 2, (NFPA 1001/Full Service Firefighter) evaluations are also available on these dates for those who have already completed the Interior Firefighter Level and have enrolled in the Full Service FF program. Level 2 students are separated during classroom time and are instructed in team management skills, communications and team safety. Level 2 students then act as Command/team leaders for hands-on, as per NFPA 1001. (You cannot do levels 1 & 2 on the same weekend.)

Departments enrolled in the JIBC Playbook program must forward their JIBC Student number to Comox Fire Rescue in order to register their members In FIRE-1071 or FIRE-1072 with the JIBC and receive accreditation. 

Please provide students JIBC number when registering.

All students (no exceptions) must meet our medical guidelines before participating in training. See attached documents. We strongly believe that by closely following these guidelines we are making a positive difference in the health of our potential students. Fire departments should pre-access their students before sending them to ensure they meet the guidelines.

Materials Required:

You are required to bring your own WCB approved personal protective clothing.

MSA breathing apparatus will be supplied or you may bring your own SCBA.

Cost and Class Size:

$525.00 per student. 15 students with 5 evaluators/instructors and 1 rehab officer per session

(Includes lunch and lots of drinking water)

JIBC student number required for certification.

Cancellation Policy:

Full refund with 30 days notice. No refund for less than 30 days.
